IIE Digital Desk : Veteran Tamil actor Rajesh passed away on Thursday at the age of 75, leaving behind a rich legacy in South Indian cinema. The acclaimed actor, known for his versatile performances and calm screen presence, breathed his last at his residence in Chennai following age-related ailments. His demise has deeply saddened the Tamil film fraternity, fans, and colleagues who remembered him as a gentle, humble, and immensely talented artist.

Rajesh, whose real name was Vidyasagar, began his acting journey in the late 1970s and rose to prominence through the 1980s and 1990s. He was widely recognized for playing both lead and character roles with equal ease, often portraying dignified, emotionally resonant characters in family dramas and socially themed films. His debut film Kanni Paruvathile (1979) set the tone for a long and steady career in Kollywood, earning him recognition for his natural acting style and expressive eyes.

Over the years, Rajesh appeared in more than 150 films, spanning a variety of genres. Some of his most memorable roles came in films like Achamillai Achamillai, Muthal Mariyathai, and Vedham Pudhithu, where he worked alongside legendary directors such as Bharathiraja and K. Balachander. His performances were marked by subtlety and emotional depth, which endeared him to both audiences and filmmakers.

Beyond the big screen, Rajesh also had a strong presence on television, where he played key roles in several popular Tamil serials in the 2000s. He remained active in the entertainment industry until a few years ago, gradually stepping back due to health concerns. Despite the physical limitations of age, his contribution to Tamil cinema remained widely respected, and he was often invited to industry events and film festivals as a revered elder of the acting community.

Tributes began pouring in soon after news of his passing broke. Prominent actors, directors, and producers from the Tamil film industry expressed their condolences on social media and through public statements. Actor Kamal Haasan called Rajesh “a dignified performer and a silent pillar of Tamil cinema,” while director Bharathiraja described him as “an actor who spoke volumes with his eyes.”

The South Indian Artistes’ Association (Nadigar Sangam) also issued a heartfelt statement honoring Rajesh's contribution to the industry and extending condolences to his family. His funeral is expected to be held in Chennai with attendance from numerous members of the film fraternity.

Rajesh is survived by his wife and children. His quiet yet powerful screen presence and years of dedication to cinema have left an indelible mark on Tamil film history. As the industry bids farewell to one of its most beloved actors, his legacy will continue to live on through the timeless characters he brought to life.
