
IIE DIGITAL: Rekha, a timeless icon of Indian cinema, is all set to grace the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IIFM) as a special guest, where she will also have the honour of hoisting the Indian national flag. The veteran actress will be recognised with the prestigious Excellence in Cinema Award for her immense contribution to the world of Indian films.
Adding to the occasion, her celebrated classic Umrao Jaan will also be screened at the festival. The film, and especially her unforgettable portrayal of the titular character, continues to remain etched in the memories of audiences. Rekha said that Umrao Jaan has stayed with her through the years, living on in her memories and in the hearts of those who have embraced the character with love. She described the film’s return to the international spotlight as an intensely emotional moment.
The legendary actress also expressed gratitude for the Excellence in Cinema Award, calling cinema the greatest blessing of her life. According to her, the honour represents not just her personal journey but also pays tribute to the filmmakers, writers, musicians and numerous collaborators who played a role in shaping her illustrious career.
