iie digital desk ; Malda, June 4: The group of local women staged a protest in the Noonbahi area under Englishbazar police station in Malda district, alleging the open and illegal sale of liquor in broad daylight. On Thursday, the protesters took to the streets demanding an immediate end to the illegal trade in the locality.

The protesters claimed that illegal liquor has been openly sold in the area for a long time. Despite multiple complaints to the police administration, no permanent solution has been achieved so far. They further alleged that although police conducted a raid in the area on Wednesday night after receiving complaints, illegal liquor sales resumed again on Thursday morning by three local individuals.

The protesting women stated that the illegal liquor trade has led to a rise in antisocial activities in the area. They said that liquor gatherings near residential areas are influencing youth and teenagers towards addiction, thereby disturbing family peace and the overall social environment.

The protesters have urged the administration not to rely only on occasional raids but to take strict and permanent action to completely stop illegal liquor sales in the area. They also warned that if immediate action is not taken, they will launch a larger agitation in the future.

Although the protest created temporary tension in the area, the situation remained under control, according to local sources.
