IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Basirhat, June 4: The protest rally and deputation programme were held on Thursday in Basirhat by the Sera Bangla Vote Adhikar Samannay Samity, demanding immediate re-inclusion of eligible voters whose names were removed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.

The rally began near the Ichhamati Bridge area under Basirhat police station in North 24 Parganas and concluded at the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), where a memorandum was submitted.

The organisation was led by Ajay Bain, who alleged that many genuine voters were excluded from the voter list, preventing them from exercising their voting rights in the 2026 Assembly elections. He further stated that individuals whose cases are pending before tribunals should not be denied access to basic civic services.

Protesters demanded that citizens whose names were removed from the voter list be given an opportunity to present their case and that their names be restored in the electoral roll without delay. They urged the administration to resolve the issue with urgent and effective measures.

Several hundred people participated in the protest, including affected voters and individuals whose matters are currently under tribunal review. The organisation warned of launching a larger agitation in the future if their demands are not met.

A memorandum highlighting their demands was also submitted to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office.
