West Bengal (July 24,2023) : Partha Chatterjee, the former education minister of West Bengal, has claimed that he has been imprisoned without trial for one year. Chatterjee, who is currently being held in Kolkata's Alipore Central Jail, made the allegation on Monday at a press conference. "I have been in jail for one year now, but I have not been given a trial," Chatterjee said. "I am being kept in jail illegally. I demand that the government release me immediately."

Chatterjee was arrested in July 2022 in connection with a recruitment scam. He is accused of taking bribes to appoint unqualified candidates to government jobs. However, Chatterjee has denied the charges, and his lawyers have filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court seeking his release. The high court is scheduled to hear the petition on Tuesday. In the meantime, Chatterjee remains in jail.
