West Bengal (June 29,2023) : The Election Commission of India (ECI) has started hiring private cars for the upcoming panchayat polls in West Bengal, despite the demands of transport unions to be given the contract.

The transport unions have said that they are willing to provide vehicles at a lower rate than the ECI is offering to private car owners. They have also said that they can provide a larger number of vehicles, which would be helpful in ensuring that all polling stations are properly covered. However, the ECI has said that it is not willing to give the contract to the transport unions. They have said that they want to ensure that the vehicles are available at all times, and that they are in good condition. The decision by the ECI has upset the transport unions. They have said that they will stage protests if the ECI does not change its decision.

"We are willing to provide vehicles at a lower rate than the ECI is offering to private car owners," said a spokesperson for the All Bengal Bus Owners' Association. "We can also provide a larger number of vehicles. We don't understand why the ECI is not willing to give us the contract." The ECI has said that it will review its decision in the light of the protests by the transport unions.
