Elderly Man’s Body Found Stuffed Inside a Sack in Canal at Basirhat District Hospital, One Detained Over Alleged Murder Linked to Financial Dispute

IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Basirhat, June 19: The area after the body of an elderly man was recovered from a narrow canal inside the premises of Basirhat District Hospital in North 24 Parganas. The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Barun Baidya. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that he may have been murdered due to a dispute related to business and financial transactions. One person has been detained and is currently being interrogated in connection with the incident.

Residents noticed a sack floating in the canal that passes through the hospital premises on Friday morning. Growing suspicious, they pulled the sack onto the bank and opened it, only to discover the body of Barun Baidya inside. The shocking discovery immediately created panic and concern among local residents. Upon receiving information, a team from Basirhat Police Station rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.

The deceased’s residence is located behind Basirhat District Hospital. Family members stated that he had been missing since Thursday, following which they searched for him at various locations and also lodged a missing person complaint with the police.

Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Investigators are trying to identify the individuals responsible for the alleged murder and establish the circumstances that led to the crime.

The investigation is currently moving forward with a focus on a possible financial dispute connected to business dealings. The detained individual is being questioned to gather further information regarding the incident and to uncover whether more people were involved in the alleged crime.

The recovery of the sack-bound body from within a hospital campus has triggered widespread shock and tension in the locality.
