The IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens on Monday was marked by intense heat and humidity, creating challenging conditions for both players and spectators. The match commenced at 3:30 PM, coinciding with the peak afternoon heat, as temperatures soared to approximately 36°C with high humidity levels.

Despite the oppressive weather, the stadium was nearly full, with over 54,000 fans in attendance. Many spectators were seen consuming multiple water pouches and oral rehydration salts (ORS) to cope with the heat. The availability of water was a concern for some, as access varied across different sections of the stadium.

The high temperatures and humidity not only affected the comfort of the audience but also posed challenges for the players. The International Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecasted no rain for Kolkata and most districts of South Bengal during this period, indicating that the heatwave conditions were likely to persist.

In response to the extreme weather, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) organization took measures to ensure the well-being of the attendees. Water pouches were sold at Rs 10 each, and ORS packs were made available at four medical centers within the stadium.

The match concluded around 8:00 PM, with the temperature still hovering in the mid-30s, making the environment feel like a sauna due to the combined effects of heat and humidity. While the home team secured a thrilling last-ball victory, the challenging weather conditions remained a significant topic of discussion among the attendees.

This event underscores the importance of considering weather conditions when scheduling outdoor sporting events. The organizers' efforts to provide hydration and medical support were crucial in mitigating the effects of the extreme heat on the spectators. However, the experience also highlights the need for enhanced planning and infrastructure to ensure the safety and comfort of attendees during such conditions.
