Paris, July 30, 2024 – The Indian athletics team has landed in Paris ahead of the highly anticipated 2024 Summer Olympics. This 29-member squad, led by defending javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra, is set to participate in various track and field events starting August 1. The team's arrival marks the culmination of rigorous training across three European countries as they prepare for the competitions.
The team comprises 18 men and 11 women athletes, with notable names like Avinash Sable (3000m steeplechase), Tajinderpal Singh Toor (shot put), and Priyanka Goswami (20km race walk). Chopra, who clinched a gold medal at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland recently, is joined by Olympic debutants Kishore Jena in javelin and Jyothi Yarraji in 100m hurdles.

The athletes have undergone intensive training in Turkiye, Poland, and Switzerland to fine-tune their performances. Chopra has been training at the Gloria Sports Arena in Antalya, Turkiye, while other athletes like Jeswin Aldrin and Praveen Chithravel have been preparing in Spala, Poland. Steeplechasers Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary have been training in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

The Indian team aims to build on the momentum from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where India saw its best-ever performance. With a mix of seasoned campaigners and fresh talents, the team hopes to achieve significant success in Paris.
