IIE DIGITAL DESK ; New Delhi | June 23, 2026 : India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval chaired the 6th meeting of the National Security Advisers of BRICS member countries held in New Delhi on Tuesday, where he addressed growing global instability and the evolving challenges confronting the international system.

The BRICS NSA summit, Ajit Doval said that the world is currently witnessing a highly turbulent phase marked by military conflicts and complex security concerns. He emphasized that geopolitical uncertainty, economic pressures, and disruptive technologies are collectively creating a challenging global environment that demands coordinated international attention.

Doval welcomed the recent understanding between the United States and Iran, stating that India supports such diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing regional tensions. He expressed hope that the agreement would be effectively implemented, noting that it could significantly contribute to global energy security. He also highlighted the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, describing it as a positive development that would ease supply chain disruptions.

The National Security Advisor, improved maritime access through key global trade routes could help resolve shortages of essential commodities such as fertilizers and chemicals. He further noted that the uninterrupted movement of goods would benefit countries across regions and could potentially enhance broader economic prosperity.

Doval said that the world is currently navigating a phase of heightened instability, with multiple ongoing conflicts and complex security challenges. He pointed out that existing mechanisms and institutional frameworks designed to manage or mitigate such crises are increasingly proving inadequate in addressing emerging threats.

He further observed that multilateralism is currently under strain, with global institutions facing limitations in effectively responding to fast-changing geopolitical realities. The BRICS grouping, he noted, was originally conceived as an informal alliance of emerging economies aimed at fostering economic cooperation and strengthening the voice of the Global South in international affairs.

Doval added that the BRICS platform was also envisioned to promote reforms in global governance and institutional development. He described BRICS as a unique coalition of nations committed to peace, progress, development, and cooperation, and expressed satisfaction that the grouping continues to grow stronger over time.

The 16th BRICS National Security Advisers’ meeting, Ajit Doval welcomed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi along with other senior delegates. He also received Iran’s SNSC Deputy Secretary for Defence Affairs Qadir Nizamipur and UAE representative Ali Mohammed Hammad Al Shamsi, among other dignitaries participating in the high-level discussions.

The meeting focused on strengthening strategic cooperation, enhancing dialogue among member nations, and addressing shared security challenges in an increasingly complex global landscape. BRICS members reiterated their commitment to cooperation and collective efforts in promoting global stability and development.

The discussions in New Delhi underscored the importance of coordinated international responses to emerging threats, with participating countries emphasizing the need for stronger multilateral frameworks to manage geopolitical risks and ensure sustainable global progress.
