IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Gangtok, May 26: President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Gangtok on Tuesday as she began her three-day official visit to Sikkim. The President landed at the Libing Helipad, where she was given a warm welcome by Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. Her visit to the Himalayan state will continue until May 28.

President Murmu is scheduled to undertake a series of official engagements and visits to important institutions and locations across the state. On Tuesday itself, she is expected to visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology in Gangtok, a prominent centre for research in Tibetan culture, history, and religion.

Wednesday, the President will travel to Nathula Pass, one of the most significant and strategically important mountain passes along the India-China border. On the same day, she will also attend the convocation ceremony of Sikkim University in Gangtok, where she is expected to address graduating students and academic officials.

The President’s itinerary will conclude on May 28, when she will attend a ceremonial programme in Gangtok, during which she will present the President’s Colour to the Sikkim Police, a prestigious honour recognising exceptional service and dedication by a state police force.

The visit of President Murmu is being seen as an important occasion for the state, highlighting both cultural and strategic significance of Sikkim, while also strengthening institutional and administrative engagement between the state and the Union government.
