Blending personal concern with political messaging, Rahul recounted spending the night beside her hospital bed and praised the dedication of a Kerala nurse who attended to her through the night.

Sonia Gandhi, 79, was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi at around 10:22 pm on Wednesday after developing a fever. Doctors initially indicated that her illness was likely linked to seasonal changes. On Thursday, hospital authorities stated that she was responding to treatment and remained under medical observation.

Rahul Gandhi, who is currently serving as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, immediately rushed to the hospital upon learning of his mother’s condition, reportedly leaving behind his ongoing campaign activities in Kerala. According to party sources, he spent the night in her hospital room, resting on a small sofa and remaining awake for most of the time, deeply concerned about her health.

Addressing party workers and supporters virtually at a campaign gathering, Rahul spoke candidly about his experience at the hospital. He said that like any son, he was extremely worried about his mother’s health and spent the night in her room. He described sleeping on a small sofa and being unable to fully rest due to concern. However, he added that one aspect of the night gave him reassurance.

Rahul praised a nurse from Kerala who, he said, visited Sonia Gandhi every hour to check on her condition. He noted that the nurse would gently smile, hold his mother’s hand, and carefully monitor her health through the night. According to him, the nurse’s dedication and compassion reflected the character and values of Kerala. His remarks drew applause from party workers, as he used the anecdote to highlight the state’s healthcare ethos and human sensitivity.
