New Delhi (July 06,2023) : The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that the first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) outside India will be set up in Tanzania. The IIT will be located in the capital city of Dar es Salaam and will be jointly established by the Government of India and the Government of Tanzania. The IIT will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in engineering and technology. It is expected to start classes in 2024.

The establishment of the IIT in Tanzania is a major step in India's efforts to expand its educational footprint in Africa. It is also a sign of the growing cooperation between India and Tanzania in the field of education. The MEA has announced that the first IIT outside India will be set up in Tanzania. The IIT will be jointly established by the Government of India and the Government of Tanzania and is expected to start classes in 2024.
