IIE Digital Desk: In response to the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) leadership during the nationwide protests, the BJP is revamping its youth outreach strategy by incorporating Gen Z culture, internet slang, and social media trends to reconnect with young voters. This move comes after the youth-led demonstrations over the leak of NEET papers, which exposed India's digitally savvy generation.

BJP has reportedly ordered its social media teams and youth activists to adopt a more relatable presence on the internet. On social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube, where Gen Z expressions such as "gym bros, " and memes are popular among young people to engage with their younger followers, political conversations have become more fluid.

The policy demonstrates a deviation from the BJP's conventional digital communication approach, which has predominantly relied on Twitter and formal messaging. Despite the rapid rise of the CJP, a youth-led movement that mobilized students to protest against alleged examination irregularities and wider issues such as unemployment and educational reforms over the past year has led party leaders to believe that connecting with first-time voters is no easy task. The protests were said by analysts to indicate the increasing political participation of young Indians and highlight the power of online platforms in shaping public discourse.

The BJP's campaign activities will be extended beyond the internet, according to party sources. It is anticipated that the campaign will involve campus activities, programs aimed at young people, and direct contact with first-time voters before the state elections. Leaders anticipate that these initiatives will address concerns about jobs, education and opportunities while also strengthening the party's connections with India’S youngest population.

According to political analysts, the BJP's latest strategy is evidence of a wider understanding that Gen Z voters have varying information consumption preferences. The prevalence of Instagram, reels, memes and online communities has led to political parties adapting their communication styles to stay relevant.
