IIE Digital Desk: A group of masked men are said to have attacked a student protester in Bengaluru who was marching in support of the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A new wave of apprehension regarding the security of student activists and renewed conversation on the country's freedom of expression has emerged.

According to reports, the AISA member who was attacked shortly after participating in a demonstration related to the student movement. The attackers allegedly challenged the student and asked him to demand PM Modi's resignation, then proceeded to beat him up and flee.

Following the attack, which left the student injured, he then went to police. The authorities have launched an investigation, and CCTV footage and other evidence are being analyzed to determine the individuals or groups responsible. At the time of publication, no arrests had been made.

Following weeks of student-led protests across the country over the alleged NEET paper leak and calls for greater accountability in the education system, political tensions have increased. The protests that began with examination reforms were followed by more extensive demands, such as the resignation of senior government officials. Their appeal to the Karnataka Police included identifying and protecting students involved in peaceful protests.

The event has also heightened the political uncertainty surrounding the recent police crackdown on demonstrators in multiple states.' Opposition leaders have alleged that the Centre is creating an environment that fosters intimidation and violence against dissent, while the government has maintained that it supports peaceful protests but will take measures to prevent illegal activities.

The national student movement has seen Bengaluru become a hub for thousands of students who have rallied in various locations, including Freedom Park, to demand education reforms and accountability. The recent attack has given more visibility to the protests, causing concerns about the safety of those involved. 

Student organizations have demanded a comprehensive investigation and strict measures against the culprits as the investigation continues. The incident is another example of how the challenges faced in dealing with political dissent on campus have been highlighted, as many argue that peaceful protest must be preserved regardless of party lineage.
