At Least 9 Passengers Burnt to Death as Moving Bus Catches Fire in Greater Noida
IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Greater Noida, September 24: At least nine passengers were burnt to death after an air-conditioned bus caught fire while travelling on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, late on Wednesday night. The deceased include eight men and one woman. The number of casualties could rise further as authorities continue to assess the situation.
According to police sources, the bus was carrying around 35 passengers and was travelling from Noida towards Mahoba when the incident occurred near Jewar. The bus caught fire close to Dayantpur village on the Yamuna Expressway, leaving several passengers trapped inside.
The tragedy occurred around midnight when most of the passengers were reportedly asleep. Many of them took some time to realise that the vehicle was on fire, by which time the situation had become critical. The blaze spread rapidly through the bus, severely damaging the vehicle and resulting in the deaths of nine passengers.
Emergency services and local authorities were alerted following the incident and rushed to the spot. The injured were rescued and taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Officials are assessing the condition of those injured, while further details are awaited.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. Police have begun an investigation to establish how the blaze started and to determine the circumstances that led to its rapid spread. The condition of the bus and other safety-related aspects are also expected to be examined as part of the probe.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. He directed the local administration to ensure proper treatment for the injured and provide all necessary assistance to the affected families.
The Chief Minister has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for the family of each deceased passenger. Each injured passenger will receive Rs 50,000 as compensation. The local administration has been instructed to extend necessary support to the victims and their families.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the incident is underway. Police and other authorities are working to establish the exact cause of the fire and gather further details about the tragedy. More information is expected as the probe progresses.
