IIE DIGITAL DESK ; New Delhi, July 25: The total of 18 Delhi Metro stations remained closed on Saturday as authorities tightened security arrangements in the national capital amid prevailing law and order concerns. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that the stations would remain shut from 7:30 a.m. until further notice as part of precautionary security measures.

The DMRC, the decision was taken in view of security considerations, and passengers have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly. The temporary closure affects several key stations across the Delhi Metro network that witness heavy daily commuter traffic.

The metro stations that have been closed include Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Sewa Teerth, Janpath and Mandi House. In addition, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, Jhandewalan and New Delhi Metro Station have also been shut for passenger entry and exit.

The DMRC clarified that although these stations have been closed to regular passenger movement, interchange facilities will continue to remain operational at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat stations. The corporation stated that the restrictions came into effect from 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and will remain in force until further orders are issued by the authorities. No timeline has yet been announced regarding when normal operations will resume at the affected stations.

The closure of several major metro stations is expected to impact thousands of commuters travelling through central Delhi during the day. Authorities have urged passengers to stay updated through official announcements and use alternative routes wherever necessary until the restrictions are lifted.

The security measures come as Delhi continues to witness heightened vigilance, with law enforcement agencies maintaining a strong presence across sensitive locations in the city. Officials have not disclosed further details regarding the specific security concerns but have emphasized that the temporary closures are purely precautionary and aimed at ensuring public safety.
