IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, September 24: The foundation stone of the proposed Adani Aarogya Mandir hospital was formally laid in New Town on Thursday, marking the beginning of a major healthcare project in West Bengal. Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari were present at the foundation-laying ceremony. The proposed hospital is planned as a 2,000-bed healthcare facility in New Town.

The programme, Gautam Adani described the occasion as an honour and said the project was intended to become a symbol of health, hope and human dignity for future generations. He expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for attending the ceremony and highlighted the significance of establishing such a healthcare facility in Bengal.

Referring to his visit to Kalighat Temple earlier in the morning, Adani said he had sought the blessings of Maa Kali for the strength to lead with courage, the will to dream big and the determination to turn those dreams into action. He said he believed that moments of great opportunity always brought with them greater responsibility.

Adani further said that Bengal was standing at such a significant juncture and described the responsibility of turning its potential into tangible progress as an important task. In this context, he referred to the leadership of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and expressed confidence about Bengal's future development.

The Adani Group chairman also said that Bengal could open up new horizons in the coming years and stated that the group was committed to participating in the state's development journey. His remarks came during a visit that included several engagements in Kolkata, including the hospital foundation ceremony and discussions on proposed investments in the state.

The Adani Aarogya Mandir project is planned as a 2,000-bed hospital. According to reports, the facility is expected to have a significant social healthcare component, with 1,000 beds proposed for free treatment for economically disadvantaged patients, while the remaining beds are intended for commercially operated healthcare services. The project has been reported as involving an investment of around Rs 2,500 crore.

The proposed healthcare complex is also expected to go beyond conventional hospital services. Plans indicate that the facility could have a role in healthcare education, medical research, skill development and medical tourism, potentially creating a wider healthcare ecosystem in New Town.

The project represents one of the major healthcare initiatives associated with the Adani Group's proposed expansion in West Bengal. The foundation-laying ceremony formally moves the project from the planning stage towards implementation, while further construction and operational details are expected to emerge as work progresses.

For New Town, the proposed hospital is expected to add a major healthcare facility to the rapidly developing urban area. The project is also being closely watched in the context of wider investment proposals involving the Adani Group in West Bengal.

Adani's visit to Kolkata comes amid discussions over investment opportunities and expansion plans in the state. According to reports, his schedule also included a meeting with the Chief Minister and senior government officials regarding proposed investments.
