US Ambassador Eric Garcetti Wants to Get Lost in Kolkata's Colorful Neighborhoods
Kolkata (July 07,2023) : US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti said he wants to get lost in Kolkata's colorful neighborhoods during his visit to the city. Garcetti, who is of Indian descent, is the first person of Indian origin to be appointed as US Ambassador to India. "I want to get lost in Kolkata's colorful neighborhoods," Garcetti said. "I want to walk through the alleyways and markets and meet the people who make this city so special."
Garcetti visited Kolkata on Monday as part of his tour of India. He met with Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim and other city officials. He also visited the Dakshinapan area, a vibrant neighborhood known for its street art. "I was really struck by the energy and creativity of Dakshinapan," Garcetti said. "It's a place where people from all walks of life come together to express themselves." Garcetti said he was also impressed by Kolkata's rich history and culture. He visited the Victoria Memorial Hall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Howrah Bridge, one of the most iconic bridges in India.
