SSKM Hand Transplant Rejected, Second Hand to be Removed
Kolkata (August 03,2023) :The first hand transplant in SSKM Hospital has not been successful. The patient, a 27-year-old man who had lost both arms in an electrical accident, had the transplant surgery in December 2022. However, the transplanted hands were rejected by his body a few weeks later. The doctors at SSKM Hospital are now planning to remove the second hand. They say that the rejection of the first hand was due to a number of factors, including the patient's underlying medical conditions and the fact that the donor hand was not a perfect match.
The doctors say that they are still hopeful that they will be able to perform a successful hand transplant in the future. However, they say that they will need to find a more compatible donor and that the patient will need to be in better health before they can attempt another surgery.
