Kolkata (August 05,2023) : Mayor Firhad Hakim has expressed disappointment with the work of the Kolkata Environmental Improvement Project (KEIIP). In a recent public appearance, Hakim said that he was "not happy" with the progress of the project, which is aimed at improving the city's drainage and sanitation system.

Hakim said that the project has been "slow" and that there have been "many problems" with the implementation. He also said that he is concerned about the project's budget, which has reportedly increased by over 100% since it was first approved. The KEIIP is a major infrastructure project that is funded by the World Bank. It is expected to cost over ₹10,000 crore (US$1.3 billion) and is scheduled to be completed in 2025.

Hakim's comments come at a time when Kolkata is facing a number of challenges related to flooding and sanitation. In recent years, the city has been hit by a number of major floods, which have caused widespread damage and displacement. The KEIIP is seen as a key project to help address these challenges. However, Hakim's comments suggest that there are concerns about the project's ability to deliver on its promises.
