Kolkata (August 11,2023) : A day after the body of a Jadavpur University student was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room, police said that the student had claimed he was not gay before his death. The student, identified as 21-year-old Arijit Roy, was a second-year student of English literature at JU. He was found dead on Wednesday morning.

Police said that they have not found any suicide note, but they are probing all angles, including the possibility of a hate crime. According to police, Roy had told his friends that he was being harassed by some seniors for being gay. He had also told them that he was planning to file a police complaint against the seniors. Police said that they are questioning Roy's friends and roommates to get more information about the case. They are also checking Roy's laptop and phone for any clues.

The case has been registered as unnatural death. Police said that they will take further action after the post-mortem report is out. The death of Roy has sparked outrage in Kolkata. Several student organizations have called for a protest march on Thursday. The incident has also brought back the spotlight on the issue of homophobia in India. In recent years, there have been several cases of violence against gay people in India.

The police have assured that they will take strict action against anyone found responsible for Roy's death. They have also appealed to the people to come forward with any information that could help the investigation. The death of Roy is a tragedy. It is a reminder that homophobia is still a real problem in India. It is important to stand up against homophobia and to create a more inclusive society where everyone is accepted for who they are.
