Kolkata, (June 24, 2023): The rising heat and humidity in Kolkata is posing a risk to children and the elderly, who are more vulnerable to heat stress. The city has been experiencing record-breaking temperatures in recent weeks, with the mercury rising above 40 degrees Celsius. The humidity levels have also been high, making it feel even hotter.

Heat stress can cause a number of health problems, including heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. These conditions can be life-threatening, especially in children and the elderly.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has issued advisories urging people to take precautions against heat stress. These include staying indoors during the hottest part of the day, drinking plenty of fluids, and wearing loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.

The KMC has also set up special shelters for people who need to cool off. These shelters are equipped with fans and water coolers. The heat wave is expected to continue in Kolkata for the next few days. People are advised to take precautions against heat stress and to stay safe.
