Kolkata (August 01,2023) : Dengue cases are on the rise in south Kolkata, and health officials are blaming tyre shops for the increase. According to the health department, there have been 26 cases of dengue reported in the 12th borough of Kolkata so far this year. This is a significant increase from the same period last year, when there were only 22 cases reported.

Health officials believe that the increase in dengue cases is due to the breeding of mosquitoes in tyre shops. Tyre shops are often cluttered with old tyres, which provide a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.

The health department has issued a notice to all tyre shops in south Kolkata, warning them to clean up their premises and remove any potential mosquito breeding grounds. The department has also said that it will be conducting regular inspections of tyre shops to ensure that they are complying with the notice. In addition to the health department's efforts, residents of south Kolkata can also help to prevent the spread of dengue by taking steps to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds around their homes. This includes emptying stagnant water from containers, covering water tanks, and repairing holes in screens.
