IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata, 6 May: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has expressed serious concern over incidents of post-poll violence and unrest reported from various districts following the announcement of election results in West Bengal.

Taking a strong stance, the Chief Election Commissioner has directed authorities to take strict and immediate action against those involved in violence and vandalism. He emphasized that individuals inciting or participating in such activities must be arrested without delay.

Gyanesh Kumar has issued comprehensive instructions to senior administrative and police officials across the state. These include the Chief Secretary of West Bengal, the Director General of Police, the Kolkata Police Commissioner, and the Director General of the Central Armed Police Forces. District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, and other senior police officials have also been directed to remain on continuous alert and ensure round-the-clock patrolling in sensitive areas.

The Election Commission has further instructed that strict surveillance must be maintained across all districts to prevent any recurrence of violence. Authorities have been asked to closely monitor law and order situations and act swiftly wherever incidents of vandalism or unrest are reported.

The Chief Election Commissioner reiterated that maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of citizens is the top priority, and any attempt to disrupt public order will be dealt with firmly under the law.
