IIE DIGITAL DESK : Trouble appears to be mounting for Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, as a fresh complaint has been lodged against him at Bhawanipur Police Station. This comes shortly after an earlier complaint was filed against him at the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station. The latest complaint alleges that the Diamond Harbour MP has made statements on social media that could disturb communal harmony and spread hatred. According to the complainant, Arnab Kanti Das, such remarks made on social media may lead to tension between communities, and therefore legal action has been sought. A copy of the social media post has also been submitted to the police, based on which preliminary investigation has already begun, according to sources.
The controversy reportedly stems from a social media post made by Abhishek Banerjee on May 2. The complainant claims that the content of the post contains language that could potentially violate communal harmony and national unity. He has further questioned how a Member of Parliament could make such statements, calling it an act of irresponsibility and warning that it may have serious social consequences.
It is important to note that earlier, during election campaigning, Abhishek Banerjee was also booked under multiple sections at a cyber crime police station following allegations of provocative statements. During the run-up to the 2026 assembly election campaign, he had repeatedly launched sharp attacks against the BJP in several public meetings. In one such rally held on April 27, he reportedly challenged the BJP, saying, “I will see who comes to protect them after 4 o’clock at night. I will see how powerful these executioners are and which leader from Delhi comes to rescue them.”
Statement, a resident of Baguiati named Rajib Sarkar had also filed a police complaint against him, leading to an FIR being registered. Abhishek Banerjee later approached the Calcutta High Court challenging the FIR, where he has already received interim protection. However, despite the legal relief, the latest complaint has added fresh discomfort for the Trinamool Congress leader as another case has now been registered against him at Bhawanipur Police Station.
