Islamabad (August 29,2023) : A Pakistani court has granted bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case. Khan was arrested on April 19 on charges of keeping gifts from the Toshakhana, a government repository of gifts received by dignitaries from foreign countries, for personal use. The court granted bail to Khan after he submitted a surety bond of Rs. 1 million. He is also required to appear before the court on a daily basis. The Toshakhana case is one of several corruption cases filed against Khan by the government of his successor, Shehbaz Sharif. Khan has denied all the charges against him.

The bail order is a major relief for Khan, who had been facing the prospect of spending several weeks in jail. It is also a setback for the government, which had been hoping to keep Khan in custody until the next general election, which is due in 2023. The bail order is likely to boost Khan's political fortunes. He has been holding rallies across the country, and the bail order is likely to energize his supporters. The case is still pending in court, and it is possible that Khan could be convicted and sentenced to jail. However, the bail order is a major victory for him, and it will be difficult for the government to keep him in custody.
