IIE digital desk: Actress Zareen Khan recently reflected on the challenges she faced due to constant comparisons with Katrina Kaif early in her career. Khan, who debuted alongside Salman Khan in the 2010 film Veer, revealed that these comparisons "backfired badly" for her.
In an industry where identity and individuality are paramount, being consistently likened to another actress hindered Khan's ability to establish her own unique presence. "It was extremely tough," she admitted, "I was compared to Katrina Kaif from the very start, which made it difficult for me to carve out my own niche."
Khan's debut in Veer was highly anticipated, thanks in part to her co-star Salman Khan's immense popularity. However, the shadow of Kaif's success loomed large, making it challenging for Zareen to step out of that comparison. Despite these hurdles, Khan persevered, gradually building a diverse filmography that showcases her versatility.
Reflecting on her journey, Khan emphasized the importance of resilience and self-belief. "Everyone has their own path and struggles," she said. "It took time, but I learned to focus on my strengths and continue working hard."
Today, Zareen Khan is recognized for her distinct talent and has a growing fan base that appreciates her for who she is, rather than as a reflection of another.
For me, who used to be overweight, being compared to Katrina was huge, but it backfired badly. I was a lost child in the industry, and I didn't know most people here. I only knew the names of the producers and directors not by their faces… but they started to feel I was arrogant because Salman Khan launched me.
