IIE Digital Desk : Veteran actor Shabana Azmi has lodged a police complaint after an impersonator tried to phish her by sending messages to her colleagues and friends. The impersonator, who was using Azmi's name and photograph, had sent messages to her colleagues and friends, asking them to make payments to a certain bank account.

Azmi's team immediately alerted her, and she filed a complaint with the cybercrime police in Mumbai. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. Azmi has warned her fans and followers to be wary of such phishing attempts. She has also urged them to not share any personal information with strangers.

This is not the first time that an actor has been impersonated for phishing purposes. In the past, several other actors, including Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra, have been targeted by such attempts. Phishing is a type of online fraud in which criminals send emails or messages that appear to be from a legitimate source, such as a bank or financial institution. The emails or messages often contain a link that, when clicked, takes the victim to a fake website that looks like the real website. Once the victim enters their personal information on the fake website, the criminals can steal it.
