IIE DIGITAL DESK ;  New Delhi, May 25: Veteran actress Hema Malini arrived in Delhi to receive the prestigious Padma Vibhushan on behalf of her husband, legendary actor Dharmendra. The honour, awarded posthumously, was announced by the central government last year as part of its Padma awards list.

The award ceremony is set to be held in the presence of Droupadi Murmu, who will confer the honours on the recipients. Hema Malini represented the family at the event, marking a deeply emotional and significant moment for the Deol family.

Delhi, Hema Malini said she had travelled alone for the ceremony. She mentioned that her daughter Esha Deol had also wished to accompany her, but due to prior commitments she was unable to attend. The actress added that the entire family had intended to be present, but work obligations prevented their participation. Despite this, she described the occasion as a very important and emotional milestone for the family.

Dharmendra, who is approaching his 90th birthday in a few weeks, has been one of Indian cinema’s most iconic figures, with a career spanning decades and numerous memorable performances. The recognition has brought a wave of happiness to the Deol family.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed condolences and admiration for Dharmendra’s contribution to Indian cinema, calling him a legendary personality whose charm and depth enriched every role he played. The Prime Minister had also highlighted his simplicity, humility and sincerity, which made him beloved across generations.
