IIE DIGITAL: Director Bodhaditya Banerjee is all set to make his mark as a filmmaker with Milton, an unconventional romantic drama that presents love and relationships through a refreshingly different lens. Known for his work as an editor on several popular Bollywood films, Bodhaditya is now stepping into the director’s chair with his first Bengali feature.

At the heart of Milton is a rather unusual storyteller—a ventriloquist’s doll that travels through time, journeying from the past into present-day Kolkata. Through this unique narrative device, the film weaves together romance, comedy and elements of thriller, while exploring the complexities of contemporary relationships. Set against the vibrant backdrop of a neon-lit Kolkata, the story also reflects the changing dynamics of love and companionship in the age of Gen Z and social media.

The film stars Arjun Chakrabarty as Krishnendu and Shruti Das as Brishti. Their characters, along with two other young individuals, find themselves caught up in a journey shaped by love, memories, missed connections and the possibility of second chances. The film aims to capture the emotional highs and uncertainties of young relationships while presenting Kolkata through a fresh, colourful and contemporary visual world.

Speaking about the idea behind Milton, Bodhaditya says he wanted to revisit the charm of quirky and unconventional love stories at a time when thrillers, cop dramas and action-driven narratives have become increasingly popular on screen. Rather than following a conventional romantic formula, the filmmaker has attempted to create a world where four individuals are trying to understand themselves, their relationships and their place in today's fast-changing society.

According to the director, Milton is designed as an entertaining yet emotionally engaging journey filled with lost romances, cherished memories, unexpected reunions and moments of hope. The film brings together these elements with the imagery of a beautiful sunset and the presence of a villain, adding an intriguing layer to its otherwise romance-driven narrative.

With its youthful setting, contemporary themes and music playing an important role in the storytelling, Milton is also aimed at connecting with younger audiences. Through its mix of romance, humour, nostalgia and suspense, Bodhaditya hopes to offer viewers a fresh take on love stories while presenting the familiar city of Kolkata in a vibrant new light.
