July 10, 2023 : SpiceJet is an Indian low-cost airline that was founded in 2005. The airline is currently facing financial difficulties, and it has been struggling to make payments to its creditors. In 2018, SpiceJet was ordered by an arbitral tribunal to pay Rs 578 crore to Kalanithi Maran, the chairman of Sun Group, in a share-transfer dispute. SpiceJet has already paid Rs 380 crore of this amount, but it is still due to pay Rs 198 crore in interest.

The interest payment of Rs 198 crore is due on July 15, 2023. SpiceJet is in talks with Kalanithi Maran to defer this payment. The airline has argued that it is unable to make the payment due to its financial difficulties. Kalanithi Maran has not yet agreed to defer the payment, but he is said to be open to discussing a settlement. There are a few possible outcomes to the talks between SpiceJet and Kalanithi Maran. One possibility is that the two parties will reach an agreement to defer the interest payment. Another possibility is that the two parties will not reach an agreement, and Kalanithi Maran will take legal action against SpiceJet. If Kalanithi Maran takes legal action, SpiceJet could be forced to pay the interest payment, or it could be forced to enter bankruptcy.

The outcome of the talks between SpiceJet and Kalanithi Maran will have a significant impact on the airline. If the two parties reach an agreement to defer the interest payment, it will give SpiceJet some breathing room to improve its financial situation. However, if the two parties do not reach an agreement, or if Kalanithi Maran takes legal action, it could put SpiceJet in a very difficult financial position.
The talks between SpiceJet and Kalanithi Maran are ongoing, and it is not yet clear what the outcome will be. However, the outcome of these talks will have a significant impact on the airline's future.
