IIE Digital Desk : India is the only major economy that is "making advances on all aspects of energy transition," according to a new report by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The report, titled "The Global Energy Transition Index 2023," ranks 115 countries on their progress in transitioning to a clean energy future. India ranks 10th overall in the index, and it is the only country in the top 10 that is not a developed economy. The report notes that India has made significant progress in recent years in expanding its renewable energy capacity and in reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.

The report also highlights India's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. The Indian government has set ambitious targets for increasing the share of renewable energy in its electricity mix, and it is also investing in a number of initiatives to promote energy efficiency. "India is a shining example of how countries can make progress on energy transition even in the face of significant challenges," said Francisco Rosillo-Calle, Head of the Energy, Climate and Resources Program at the WEF. "The country's progress is a testament to the commitment of the Indian government and the Indian people."
