The latest arrests have taken the total number of people apprehended in connection with the case to 13, marking a significant development in an investigation that has drawn widespread public attention and political reactions across the state.
Tamanna’s mother, Sabina Yasmin, had repeatedly appealed for justice following the death of her daughter, urging authorities to ensure that all those responsible were brought before the law. The two accused had been on the run since the case was registered. Following the raid, both suspects were successfully apprehended and subsequently brought back to Kaliganj for further interrogation and legal proceedings.

The case stems from a violent incident that allegedly occurred during celebrations following the Trinamool Congress' victory in the 2025 Kaliganj Assembly by-election. According to allegations made by the victim’s family and others, miscreants allegedly associated with the ruling party hurled a crude bomb during the celebrations. The explosive reportedly struck young Tamanna, causing severe injuries.
The child succumbed to her injuries, triggering widespread outrage and calls for justice from political leaders, civil society groups, and local residents. The incident quickly became a major political issue, with opposition parties demanding strict action against those responsible and questioning the law-and-order situation in the region.
Since then, law enforcement agencies have conducted multiple operations to track down individuals named in the case. With the arrest of the two latest suspects, police have now detained 13 people in connection with the murder investigation.
