Former Panchayat Chief Arrested in Arambagh, Protesters Throw Eggs During Court Appearance
IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Arambagh, June 23: Police arrested former Arandi-I Gram Panchayat chief Saharab Hossain late on Monday night in connection with several serious allegations, including looting, bomb-related violence, and molestation. According to reports, he was initially detained from his residence in the Satmasa area under the jurisdiction of Arambagh Police Station before being formally arrested.
Police sources said that multiple criminal complaints had been lodged against Saharab Hossain over a prolonged period. As part of the ongoing investigation, he was taken into custody and produced before the Arambagh Sub-Divisional Court on Tuesday. Before being presented in court, he was taken to a hospital for a mandatory medical examination in accordance with legal procedures.
Tension erupted on Tuesday morning while the accused was being taken to court. According to reports, a group of individuals gathered near the court premises and allegedly threw eggs at Saharab Hossain when the police vehicle carrying him arrived at the complex. The incident created a brief period of unrest and heightened tension in the area.
Police personnel quickly intervened and brought the situation under control. Security arrangements around the court premises were subsequently strengthened, and the accused was safely escorted into the courtroom for the legal proceedings.
The arrest and the dramatic scenes outside the court have already triggered intense political discussion in the region. The incident has drawn significant public attention due to the nature of the allegations and the accused’s former position as a local elected representative.
The lawyer representing Saharab Hossain has strongly denied all allegations against his client. According to the defence, the charges are entirely motivated and politically driven. The lawyer maintained that the truth would emerge through the judicial process and legal proceedings.
The other hand, police officials stated that every aspect of the case is being examined carefully and that the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have indicated that further legal action will be taken in accordance with the directions of the court as the probe progresses.
