IIE DIGITAL DESK : May 16, 2025 — Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman has officially been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to participate in the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The left-arm fast bowler is set to join his franchise, Delhi Capitals, on May 18, just ahead of the league’s final stretch.

The BCB's decision comes after internal discussions about player workload management and Bangladesh's upcoming international commitments. Mustafizur had been in Bangladesh for national duty during a series against Zimbabwe and was awaiting clearance to return to the IPL. With that series now concluded, the board has permitted the experienced bowler to rejoin the lucrative T20 league.

In a statement issued on Thursday evening, BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus confirmed the development: “We have reviewed Mustafizur’s schedule and health status. Since there are no immediate international commitments before our next assignment, we have granted him a NOC to take part in the remainder of the IPL season. We are confident he will benefit from the exposure and maintain his match sharpness.”

Mustafizur, 29, has been a key player in Delhi Capitals’ bowling unit over the past few seasons, bringing his trademark cutters and death-over expertise to the fore. Although he has missed a portion of the 2025 season due to national duty, the Capitals are optimistic about his impact in the crucial final stages of the tournament, including a potential playoff push.

Delhi Capitals' management welcomed the news and expressed excitement about Mustafizur’s return. “Mustafizur adds tremendous value to our squad. His experience in pressure situations and ability to deliver in crunch moments make him an asset. We’re looking forward to having him back in the mix as we aim for a strong finish this season,” said a team spokesperson.

The franchise is currently battling for a place in the top four and believes the addition of the Bangladeshi speedster will boost their chances in the remaining matches. With injuries and form concerns affecting several bowling options, Mustafizur's arrival offers both tactical flexibility and experience.

Mustafizur last played in the IPL earlier this year before returning to Bangladesh for international duties. He had featured in three games this season, picking up four wickets with an economy rate of under 8. His variations, particularly on slower tracks, have often proven challenging for opposition batters.

Known as “The Fizz” among fans, Mustafizur made his IPL debut in 2016 with Sunrisers Hyderabad and was instrumental in their title win that year. Over the years, he has represented multiple franchises, including Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, before settling into a regular role with Delhi Capitals.

With the IPL entering its most intense phase, Mustafizur’s return could not be more timely. His ability to bowl in the powerplay and at the death makes him a versatile option for skipper Rishabh Pant. As the Capitals aim to make a final playoff surge, the experienced campaigner’s presence is expected to bring both skill and calmness to a side eager for silverware.

Fans across Bangladesh and India will be closely watching his performances, not only for franchise fortunes but also as a sign of form ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup later this year. For Mustafizur, the IPL once again offers a high-profile stage to prove his mettle against the best in the world.
