IIE DIGITAL DESK : Barcelona, June 26, 2025 – FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta announced today that prodigious forward Ansu Fati is on the cusp of rejoining Ligue 1 side AS Monaco on a season-long loan, following the recent completion of contract renewal talks . The move, aimed at reigniting his career, marks a crucial new chapter for the 22-year-old after consecutive seasons marred by injuries and limited playing time.

Laporta revealed that Fati will first extend his Barcelona contract—from the summer of 2027 to 2028—and then depart on loan to Monaco. The agreement includes a purchase option and a salary-sharing arrangement, with Monaco expected to cover approximately half of Fati's wages . According to reports, Monaco's option to buy ranges from €11 million to around €12 million, and Barcelona retains a buy-back clause near €28 million to retain long-term control .

Laporta stated, “If everything goes well, we expect good news this week, and he'll head to Monaco.” Medical examinations and final formalities are expected to be completed later in the week, allowing Ansu to join training with the squad immediately .

Hailed as a footballing prodigy after several breakthrough goals at just 16 during the 2019–20 La Liga season, Fati has since struggled with the physical toll of injuries. Loaned to Brighton for the 2023–24 season, he managed four goals in 27 appearances—an encouraging return but not the leap expected.

Back in Barcelona for 2024–25 under coach Hansi Flick, Fati featured in only 11 matches and failed to find the net, accumulating less than 300 minutes of action. This saw the return to prominence of Lamine Yamal, who took over the iconic number 10 shirt .

Barcelona sporting director Deco remarked earlier this month, “We want him to play… if he needs to go, we will speak,” illustrating the club’s readiness to facilitate his development away from Camp Nou .

Monaco, consistently in the UEFA Champions League, offers a platform for redemption. Their coaching staff, led by Adi Hütter, reportedly underscored their patience and developmental approach during talks with Fati . Laporta confirmed that Fati is expected to sign later this week and begin training over the weekend .

Monaco's interest signals a high-profile endorsement of Fati’s potential, offering him a balanced environment distinct from the pressure-cooker atmosphere at Barcelona.

This transaction provides Barcelona with crucial financial relief ahead of planned summer signings, including the anticipated transfer of Nico Williams, while ensuring long-term prospects for Fati remain safeguarded. With Monaco and Barcelona splitting his salary, the move aligns with Financial Fair Play compliance.

For Fati, this loan is more than a temporary exit—it’s a chance to rebuild form, confidence, and relevance in top-tier European football.

As Joan Laporta affirmed today's developments, Ansu Fati prepares for a pivotal career reset. Monaco’s Ligue 1 staging ground could offer him consistent playing time, confidence restoration, and a clearer path back to Barcelona’s elite level. The remainder of the week will determine when this promising forward officially begins his next journey.
