IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Indore, October 12: India's explosive opener Abhishek Sharma has created a new record in international T20 cricket by becoming the fastest batter to reach 2,000 runs in the format in terms of balls faced, surpassing the previous mark held by former India captain Suryakumar Yadav. Abhishek achieved the milestone during the third T20 International against the West Indies in Indore on Sunday, underlining his growing reputation as one of India's most aggressive batters in the shortest format.

Suryakumar, who is currently out of the Indian team, had reached the 2,000-run landmark after facing 1,164 balls. Abhishek bettered that record by reaching the same milestone in just 1,024 deliveries, highlighting his remarkable scoring rate and attacking approach at the international level.

The left-handed opener needed 37 runs at the start of his innings to complete the landmark. He reached the target in spectacular fashion during the fifth over, striking Springer for two consecutive boundaries and a six off three successive deliveries. The sequence brought him to the historic mark and gave Indian cricket another milestone to celebrate.

Abhishek's achievement reflects the impact of his fearless batting style, which has made him a key attacking option at the top of India's T20I order. Known for his ability to score quickly from the beginning of an innings, the opener has consistently looked to put bowlers under pressure rather than settle into a prolonged period of cautious batting.

The record, however, is different from the benchmark for reaching 2,000 T20I runs in the fewest innings. That record belongs to Austria's Karanbir Singh, who reached the milestone in 45 innings. Abhishek took 64 innings to complete the same career landmark, meaning his record is specifically based on the number of balls faced rather than innings played.

Abhishek also delivered an explosive batting performance during the Indore encounter. He brought up his half-century in just 18 balls and went on to score 69 runs before being dismissed. His aggressive knock helped underline the attacking intent that has become a defining feature of his performances in T20 cricket.

The achievement against the West Indies marks another significant moment in Abhishek's international career. By overtaking Suryakumar's record for the fewest balls required to score 2,000 T20I runs, he has strengthened his position among the format's most destructive batters.

As India continue to develop their T20I combination, Abhishek's ability to deliver rapid starts and reach major milestones at an extraordinary scoring rate will remain an important asset. His latest record in Indore adds another chapter to his rise in international cricket and highlights the growing influence of aggressive opening batting in the modern T20 game.
