New Delhi (July 27,2023) : Members of the opposition parties in the Parliament wore black on Thursday to protest against the Centre's Agneepath scheme. The scheme, which was announced on June 14, is a new recruitment model for the armed forces. The opposition parties have been critical of the scheme, saying that it is discriminatory and will not benefit the youth. They have also raised concerns about the lack of job security for those who are recruited under the scheme.

The protest in Parliament was led by the Congress party. The party's leader in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, said that the scheme is "anti-national" and will "destroy the future of the youth". The other opposition parties that participated in the protest include the Trinamool Congress, the Samajwadi Party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal, and the Left parties. The protest in Parliament comes as the opposition parties are gearing up for the upcoming Assembly elections in several states. They are hoping to capitalize on the public anger against the Agneepath scheme.
