The city, which typically braces for heavy rainfall during the monsoon season, experienced relentless downpours that broke long-standing records, causing widespread disruption and prompting authorities to upgrade the weather alert from orange to red.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that the total rainfall received in Mumbai this May surpassed the previous highest recorded levels dating back more than 100 years. The continuous heavy rains have raised concerns about flooding, waterlogging, and safety risks across the metropolis.

Officials reported that the rainfall levels this month exceeded 600 mm, shattering the earlier record set in the early 20th century.
