Kedarnath Trek Route Rescue Operation Completes: 2,300 Pilgrims Safely Departed

IIE Digital Desk: More than 2,300 pilgrims landed on the Kedarnath trek route have been successfully rescued. The pilgrims have found themselves in distress due to the harsh weather conditions and challenging landforms. Emergency response teams which includes local authorities and disaster relief forces, launched a coordinated rescue operation to ensure the safety of those affected. Rescued team have faced challenges due to the debris and boulder falls on the  Sonprayag-Gaurikund route.

SDRF commandant Manikant Mishra said separate teams rescued the pilgrims using a two-kilometer-long alternative route. “...737 have been rescued using choppers. The remaining pilgrims are being brought to Lincholi and Kedarnath helipad."The swift and efficient efforts of the rescuers helped to evacuate the stranded pilgrims and provide them with necessary medical aid and shelter. Helicopters and ground teams were deployed to reach remote areas and transport the pilgrims to safer locations.“Due to debris and boulder falls, the Sonprayag-Gaurikund route has been damaged,” said Mishra. He also added that they are using by drones for a new plan and that the rescue operation can be carried out more effectively. 

At least thirteen people had been killed in rain - related incident since Wednesday evening. Authorities have advised against non-essential travel and are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further incidents. This large-scale rescue operation underscores the commitment of the emergency services to protect lives and ensure the well-being of pilgrims undertaking the arduous journey to Kedarnath.
