India to Get 3 New Scorpene Submarines from France

New Delhi (July 15,2023) : India and France have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build three Scorpene submarines in India. The MoU was signed by the Defense Ministers of the two countries, Rajnath Singh and Florence Parly, in New Delhi on July 15, 2023.

The Scorpene is a type of conventional submarine that is designed to be stealthy and maneuverable. It is equipped with a variety of weapons, including torpedoes, missiles, and mines. The submarines will be built at the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai.

The MoU is a significant boost to India's submarine fleet. The Scorpene submarines will be a major addition to the Indian Navy's capabilities and will help to deter aggression in the Indian Ocean region.
