IIE DIGITAL DESK : India has formally criticized recent statements made by Bangladeshi officials regarding the incidents of violence in West Bengal. The Ministry of External Affairs expressed displeasure over what it described as an unnecessary and inappropriate interference in the country’s internal affairs. The remarks from Dhaka came amid reports of unrest in Murshidabad and Malda districts, which have seen tensions flare due to local protests and communal friction.

According to Indian officials, Bangladesh’s commentary lacked context and was not in line with the principles of respectful diplomatic engagement between two sovereign nations. India clarified that the situation in West Bengal is under control and that the country's legal and administrative systems are capable of addressing such issues without external input.

The foreign ministry's response pointed out that such statements from another government, particularly one with whom India shares deep cultural and historical ties, could damage mutual trust if they continue without basis. India urged Bangladesh to avoid further comments that might be interpreted as meddling in domestic matters.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also responded sharply to the developments. She dismissed the controversial comments made by certain Bangladeshi figures, including suggestions of external intervention, as provocative and unfounded. She appealed to people across communities to maintain peace and unity, while also warning against misinformation spreading on social media platforms.

The incident adds a diplomatic layer to an already sensitive local situation, but both governments are expected to manage the issue with measured dialogue. While New Delhi has taken a firm stance, it remains committed to maintaining strong bilateral ties with Dhaka, built on cooperation, historical connections, and mutual respect.
