IIE DIGITAL DESK : The explosion near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort on Tuesday evening has shaken the entire nation. What makes the incident even more disturbing is that earlier in the day nearly 350 kilograms of explosives were recovered from Faridabad. With two major security breaches happening within hours, serious questions are now being raised about the country’s internal security and surveillance.

Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and injuries caused by the blast. In a strongly worded message on X, he questioned how such a massive security lapse could take place in the heart of the national capital, especially when Delhi Police works directly under the Union Home Ministry. Abhishek demanded that a Special Investigation Team be formed under court supervision so that the real truth behind the attack can be uncovered.

Investigators have begun piecing together the sequence of events using hours of CCTV footage. A suspicious vehicle entered the Sunheri Masjid parking lot around 4 PM on Monday and stayed there for almost three hours without moving. Later, it exited the lot, reached the area near the metro station, and exploded almost instantly. Footage shows only one person in the car during its exit. Whether this was a lone-wolf attack or part of a larger network is still under investigation. NSG and FSL teams have collected evidence and their report will confirm the exact nature of the explosives used, although the pattern so far suggests a possible IED. Based on the intensity of the blast and the condition of the charred bodies, investigators suspect the role of Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The blast has once again exposed gaps in intelligence inputs and real-time surveillance in high-priority zones of the capital. With public anger rising, Abhishek Banerjee insists that only a court-monitored investigation can ensure accountability and bring the actual perpetrators to justice.
