IIE DIGITAL DESK : Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Rahul Sinha finally cleared the scrutiny of his nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha Election, bringing an end to speculation surrounding his candidacy. The development came as a relief for the BJP leader, who walked out of the West Bengal Assembly premises with a visible smile after his nomination was formally accepted.

Sinha, whose full name is Biswajit Sinha, had submitted his nomination papers on Thursday for the Rajya Sabha election from West Bengal. His election to the Upper House of Parliament was largely considered certain as he was expected to be elected unopposed. However, a minor complication emerged when it was reported that one of the documents attached to his nomination papers contained an error related to a legal case declaration. The discrepancy triggered concern as the scrutiny process for all candidates’ nomination papers was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday.

Election officials informed Sinha that the missing or incorrect document needed to be submitted before the scrutiny process began in order to avoid complications. Acting swiftly, the BJP leader ensured that the necessary correction was made and the required paperwork was submitted in time. As a result, the scrutiny process concluded without any obstacle, and his nomination was officially accepted.

Interestingly, Friday morning also witnessed the unexpected presence of West Bengal’s Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal at the Assembly premises before the scrutiny process began. His early arrival sparked political murmurs in some quarters, with a section of observers speculating that the move might have been intended to ensure that the nomination process proceeded smoothly. However, no official confirmation was provided regarding such claims.

After the scrutiny concluded successfully, Sinha stepped out of the Assembly building appearing relaxed and satisfied. Speaking to reporters, he confirmed that the Election Commission had informed him that the official certificate would be issued on March 9. Expressing happiness over the outcome, he said he was grateful that the process had been completed without further hurdles.

“I am very happy. The Commission has informed me that the certificate will be issued on the 9th. From here onward, whatever responsibilities or duties I receive, I will carry them out sincerely,” Sinha said.

With the nomination hurdle cleared, the BJP leader’s path to becoming a member of the Rajya Sabha now appears virtually certain, marking an important political milestone in his career.
