IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 13: Police have issued a third notice to former West Bengal minister Arup Biswas in connection with the controversy surrounding the proposed visit of football icon Lionel Messi to Kolkata. He has been directed to appear before the Bidhannagar South Police Station within the next 48 hours for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police had summoned Arup Biswas twice in relation to the case. However, he did not appear before the investigating officers on either occasion. Following his absence during the previous summons, the police have once again issued a fresh notice asking him to cooperate with the investigation.

Arup Biswas has already received legal protection from the Calcutta High Court in connection with the Messi-related controversy. The High Court has directed that no strict or coercive action can be taken against him by the police until August 17.

The court has also imposed certain conditions on the former minister. One of the major conditions is that he must cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. Considering these directions and the requirement of his cooperation, the police have once again sent a summons to Arup Biswas.

The latest development has added a fresh twist to the high-profile Messi controversy, which has already generated significant attention in political and legal circles in West Bengal. The focus now remains on whether Arup Biswas will appear before the police within the stipulated time and how the investigation progresses in the coming days.
