IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata | July 30 : Passengers travelling through Dakshineswar Railway Station experienced anxious moments on Wednesday night after an overhead electric wire snapped on the down line, disrupting train services and triggering panic among commuters waiting on the platform.

According to railway officials, the incident occurred when the overhead traction wire suddenly broke, producing a loud explosion-like sound followed by sparks and flames. The unexpected burst of fire from the damaged overhead equipment created panic among passengers present on the platform and in the surrounding areas, prompting many to rush towards safer locations.

Eyewitnesses said the loud noise and continuous sparks caused confusion for several minutes as commuters feared a major electrical accident. Railway personnel immediately alerted technical teams and initiated emergency safety measures to prevent any further danger.

The snapping of the overhead wire led to a temporary suspension of train movement on the down line, affecting the normal operation of suburban railway services through the busy Dakshineswar station. Several trains were delayed while railway authorities worked to restore the damaged infrastructure.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, senior railway officials, engineers, and technical staff rushed to the spot and began repair work on a war footing. As a precautionary measure, power supply to the affected track was temporarily switched off to ensure the safety of passengers, railway employees, and maintenance personnel while restoration work was carried out.

Railway engineers inspected the damaged overhead equipment and replaced the snapped section before gradually restoring operations. Officials monitored the repair process closely to ensure that train services could resume safely without posing any further risk to commuters.

Fortunately, no injuries to passengers or railway employees were reported in the incident. The timely response of railway staff and the immediate suspension of power supply helped prevent any major accident despite the dramatic nature of the overhead wire failure.

The Railway Administration has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause behind the snapping of the overhead wire. Technical experts will examine whether the incident was caused by equipment failure, wear and tear, or any other operational issue.

Officials stated that appropriate technical and safety measures would be implemented after the investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future. The railways also assured passengers that efforts would continue to strengthen maintenance and inspection of overhead electrical infrastructure to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of trains across the network.
