Kolkata Metro Timings Revised: Blue and Green Lines to Start at 6 AM

IIE DIGITAL: Kolkata Metro is set to make its services more convenient for early-morning and late-night commuters, with revised timings coming into effect on the Blue and Green Lines from July 27. The changes will initially be introduced on a trial basis, with the possibility of making them permanent depending on passenger demand.

On the Blue Line, the first metro from both Dakshineswar and Shahid Khudiram will now leave at 6 AM, bringing forward the existing 6:50 AM service by 50 minutes. The last metro from both ends will also run later, with the final departure shifting from 9:44 PM to 10:30 PM.

The Green Line will follow a similar schedule. The first trains from Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector V, which currently start at 6:39 AM, will now be available from 6 AM. The last metro from both ends will also operate at 10:30 PM instead of the current 10:05 PM.

The revised schedule will apply from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, the first metro on both lines will start at 9 AM, while the last service will continue until 10:30 PM.

Along with extending operating hours, Metro authorities are also increasing the number of services. On weekdays, the Blue Line will run 272 trains, up from 260, while the Green Line will increase its daily services from 228 to 236. Saturday services will rise from 246 to 258 on the Blue Line and from 204 to 212 on the Green Line.

Sunday operations will also see a slight increase, with the Blue Line running 158 services instead of 152 and the Green Line operating 111 instead of 108.

The changes have been introduced to improve connectivity and meet the needs of passengers. While the revised timetable will initially remain experimental, Metro authorities may consider continuing it based on commuter demand and the response to the new schedule.
