Kolkata: Lt. Col. Held for Abetting Live-in Partner's Suicide
Kolkata, June 24, 2023: A Kolkata court has remanded a Lt. Col. in police custody for abetting the suicide of his live-in partner. The woman, identified as Anjali Mukherjee, was found hanging in the Lt. Col.'s army quarters in Kolkata on Monday. The Lt. Col., identified as Alok Banerjee, was arrested on Tuesday.
The police said that Banerjee had been in a relationship with Mukherjee for several years. However, the relationship had soured in recent months, and Banerjee had been threatening to break up with her.
Mukherjee was found hanging in the bathroom of the Lt. Col.'s quarters. A suicide note was found at the scene, in which Mukherjee blamed Banerjee for her death. The police said that they have sufficient evidence to charge Banerjee with abetment to suicide. He will be produced in court again on Thursday.
