Gariahat Hawkers to Get Metal Panels to Protect Stalls
Kolkata (July 27,2023) : The Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC) has given its nod to set up metal panels at the back of hawkers' stalls in Gariahat. The move is aimed at protecting the stalls and the merchandise from dust and the elements, and also providing space to put up advertisements.
The CMC has said that it will float an e-tender to select agencies that will build the panels. The panels will be made of steel and will be 3 feet high and 8 feet wide. They will be installed at a height of 5 feet from the ground.
The CMC has said that the metal panels will be a permanent fixture and will not be removed. The hawkers will be responsible for the maintenance of the panels. The move has been welcomed by the hawkers, who say that the metal panels will protect their stalls from the elements and also make them look more presentable.
